Linoleum is a natural material, not a plastic one: linseed oil and pine rosin bound with wood flour and limestone, calendered onto a jute backing. The colour runs through the full thickness, so scuffs and traffic wear in as patina instead of wearing through a printed layer. Forbo finishes its Marmoleum lines with Topshield2, a factory-applied surface treatment: no initial polishing, and routine care is dry sweeping plus damp mopping. Linoleum earns its keep in schools, healthcare and offices, where it takes years of traffic. It is not a wet-area floor, though: the backing is natural jute, so clean it damp rather than wet, deal with standing spills promptly, and avoid rooms where water can pool or rise through the slab.

The designs in this collection range from 3 to 8 colours that vary in contrast and intensity, and go from bold contrasts that resemble real marble to a subtler design like fresco murals.
